Frequently asked questions about FluxFree

Answers on features, reflux score, the 4-phase plan, subscription, privacy and help – and when you should see a doctor instead.

General

What is FluxFree?

FluxFree is an app for people with reflux, heartburn and acid-related symptoms. You log meals, symptoms, triggers, medication and activity. From this the app calculates a daily risk estimate, spots patterns and guides you through a 4-phase plan, step by step, to your personal trigger foods.

Who is FluxFree for?

For adults who want to understand their symptoms better and adjust their diet in a targeted way – whether they get heartburn now and then or have a diagnosed reflux disease (GERD). If symptoms are persistent or severe, always get them checked by a doctor.

Does FluxFree replace seeing a doctor?

No. FluxFree does not diagnose and does not give medical treatment recommendations. Its insights are a guide only and do not replace a medical examination, advice or treatment. Always discuss results, dietary changes and above all any changes to your medication with your doctor.

Which devices and languages does FluxFree support?

FluxFree is a smartphone app (Android and iOS). Current availability is shown via the store links on the home page. The app comes in German and English – the language follows your device and can be changed in the settings. There is a light and a dark mode.

Do I need an internet connection?

Yes. Your entries are stored and analysed on our servers, so the app needs an internet connection. There is currently no offline mode.

Features

How is the Reflux Risk Indicator calculated?

The indicator shows how likely it is that you will get reflux symptoms such as heartburn or burping on a given day. An AI model calculates it from your logged meals, lifestyle factors (e.g. smoking, alcohol, stress), medication and sleep, as well as from your profile. The scale: under 35 = low, 35–70 = moderate, over 70 = high.

The value is a rough guide, not a medical measurement. Day-to-day fluctuations are normal. The more you log, the better the estimate can adapt to you.

Why does my risk score show 0 or no value?

To calculate the estimate, the app needs a complete profile (age, height, weight) and at least one logged meal for that day. Until then, no meaningful value can be calculated yet. Log your meals and the dashboard will update.

What does the reflux score of a food mean?

Every food gets a score that shows how strongly it contains typical reflux triggers – such as a lot of fat, acid, sugar, caffeine, alcohol or cocoa, as well as ingredients like onion, garlic, chilli or mint. The flame is green (unremarkable), orange (moderate) or red (high).

The score is a guideline. What you actually tolerate is individual – that is exactly what the 4-phase plan is for: finding your own triggers.

How does the barcode scanner work?

When logging a meal, tap the scan icon and point the camera at the barcode (EAN/UPC) on the packaging. FluxFree looks up the product and adopts its nutrition values and reflux score. No photos are taken or stored – only the detected code is used for the search. The app asks for camera access once.

I can’t find a food – what can I do?

FluxFree searches the open database Open Food Facts and your own entries. If a product is missing, you can create it yourself with its nutrition values (a Premium feature) or pick a similar food. You can also create your own recipes from several ingredients.

What is the 4-phase plan “Adjust eating habits”?

A structured elimination diet that helps you reliably identify your personal trigger foods:

  1. Reset (2–3 weeks): a low-acid diet without the main triggers such as caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, mint, citrus fruit, tomatoes and fried or fatty food. Once your reflux score stays consistently low, phase 2 unlocks.
  2. Reintroduction & testing (2–4 weeks): you reintroduce one food at a time and log your reaction.
  3. Stabilization (3–4 weeks): tolerated foods return to your everyday diet while you keep an eye on your symptoms.
  4. My lifestyle (ongoing): you know your triggers, have your personal food profile and get support on the go – including a restaurant cheat sheet and a 3-day mini reset if symptoms return.

The plan does not replace medical or nutritional advice. If your symptoms are strong or persistent, talk to your doctor before you begin.

How long does the plan take?

Plan roughly 7 to 11 weeks to reach your personal food profile (phases 1 to 3). Phase 4 then supports you long term. The phases unlock based on your data, so there is no need to rush.

How are trigger foods tested?

In phase 2 you reintroduce one food roughly every 2–3 days and log your reaction over 24–48 hours. The result is a classification: tolerable, mild trigger or strong trigger. The app suggests a rating based on the values you reported – you can override it at any time.

How does the medication plan work?

You log which medication you currently take (e.g. a proton pump inhibitor), at what dose and how often. The app then suggests a plan for when and by how much a dose could be carefully reduced. If your symptoms get worse, the plan slows the reduction down.

Important: Never change your medication on your own. Discuss any plan with your doctor first. FluxFree does not replace medical advice.

Can I get reminders?

Yes. You can turn on meal reminders and be reminded of intake days in the medication plan. For this you need to allow notifications for the app in your device settings. Reminders are scheduled locally on your device.

How does the community work?

In the community you exchange experiences with other people affected – in the categories Experience, Tip, Recipe and Feature request. You can read, comment and like posts; sorting is by Newest, Hot or Top. Creating posts is part of Premium. Your username is publicly visible – choose it carefully and do not share information that identifies you. Community posts are personal experiences, not medical advice.

Account & subscription

How do I create an account?

You sign up in the app with an email address and password, or via Google or Facebook. The app also asks for your gender, age, height, weight, activity level and reflux severity. These are used to calculate your nutrition goals and the risk estimate.

What does FluxFree cost?

You can try FluxFree free for 7 days. During the trial, creating community posts and custom foods is reserved for Premium; after the trial you need Premium to keep using the app. The subscription is billed through the app store – you will see the current price there before you buy.

How do I cancel my subscription?

The subscription renews automatically and can be cancelled at any time in the store – on Google Play under Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → FluxFree → Cancel subscription. Simply deleting the app does not end the subscription. After cancelling, Premium stays active until the end of the paid period. If you switched devices, use Restore purchases in the app to link your subscription again.

I forgot my password. What now?

Please write to us at [EMAIL] from the email address you registered with. We will help you get back into your account.

How can I delete my account and data?

Write to us from your account’s email address at [EMAIL]. We will delete your account together with all stored health and log data. Statutory retention obligations (e.g. for billing records) remain unaffected. More in the privacy policy. An active subscription has to be cancelled separately in the store.

Privacy & security

What data does FluxFree store?

Account and profile data (email, username, age, height, weight …) plus the entries you log yourself: meals, symptoms, triggers, medication, activity and sleep. This is health data, which we treat with particular care. The full list with purposes and legal bases is in the privacy policy.

Who can see my health data?

Your logs (meals, symptoms, medication, triggers, activity) are private and visible only to you. The only things that are public are what you publish in the community yourself – posts, comments and your username.

Do you sell my data? Are there ads or tracking?

No. We do not sell data and we do not use advertising or tracking services. For subscription management we use a service provider (see the privacy policy).

Does this website use cookies?

No. This website uses no cookies and no analytics or marketing tools. Fonts are served from our own server; no connection is made to Google Fonts or other third parties.

Problems & help

When should I see a doctor immediately or soon?

Call your local emergency number (112 in the EU) if you have severe chest pain, pressure or tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, or pain spreading to the arm, jaw or back. This can be a heart attack – even if it feels like heartburn.

Seek medical advice soon if you have trouble or pain when swallowing, unintended weight loss, persistent vomiting, blood in vomit, black stools, anaemia, night-time cough or breathlessness – and if symptoms persist or get worse for several weeks despite changes. This is not a complete list; when in doubt, ask sooner rather than later.

The app won’t load or shows errors. What can I do?
  1. Check your internet connection – FluxFree works online.
  2. Fully close the app and reopen it.
  3. Install the latest version from the store.
  4. Log out and back in.

If that doesn’t help, write to us at [EMAIL] – please include your device model, operating system version and a short description.

A nutrition value or reflux score looks wrong.

Food data comes from the open database Open Food Facts, which is maintained by a community – entry errors can occur there. In that case pick a better-matching product or create the food yourself with the correct values. The reflux score is also only a guideline and cannot reflect your individual tolerance.

How do I reach support or give feedback?

Write to us at [EMAIL]. You can also share feature ideas in the community category “Feature”. We read everything.
